Me Bum is a Bit Sore

Eganladeux… from driving.

I guess the winter holidays bring out the nostalgic side of me or this is what happens when you haven’t used your scanner in a few months.  The year was 1998 and I was roughly halfway through my big road trip. Here you see me in Egan, Louisiana.  I drove my 1986 Honda Accord across the U.S. and Canada in those seven short weeks.  Next year I will chronicle my journey from Portland, Oregon to Utah to Arkansas to Atlanta to Virginia to Boston to Quebec City to Toronto to Chicago to Chamberlain, South Dakota and finally back to Seattle, Washington.

I don’t set numerous goals each year.  For example, my only goal for 2007 was to run a half marathon in under 90 minutes.  I should have modified that goal to just run a half marathon.  I will carry the running goal over to next year and I’m mentioning it here to keep me honest.  My bigger goal for next year though is to document my 1998 road trip.  There are tons of photos to scan and stories to tell.  1998 was a huge year for me since it’s the wonderful year I met my sweet wife.  No, we didn’t meet in Hondurus during a hurricane relief project.  We met at a cheesy dance club, but a Red Cross mission sounds much intriguing.

As you can see in this photo, I’m not quite fully klothed even though it is a Thursday blog entry.  Please accept my deepest apologies.  Typically I don’t show any skin on Thursdays.  I will make it up to you the following week when I pose as Santa and sing.  It will be a post not to miss.  No, I didn’t just agree to sing and wear a Santa outfit did I?  There’s no going back now.  I do have a belly so now it’s just time to develop the skill of carrying a tune.

Why thank you for using the title, Flamboyant Egan :).
I don’t set goals for each year, but I’m looking forward to Santa singing. Are you taking requests?

  2. Chris says:

Egan, Louisianna – impressive. Was that taken along highway 10 or the famous strip of state roads 91 & 100 actually called “Egan Highway”?

  3. justrun says:

I think if you run a half IN a Santa Suit, that would be the best. 🙂

  4. tori says:

I think I need to start setting running goals for myself again. Lately I have been slacking a bit.
Are you really going to sing as santa? Awesome! I can’t wait!

  5. armalicious says:

Yes. You have to sing dressed up as Santa now. May I suggest the song “Santa Baby”? Complete with the boop-boop-be-doop.
Your goal with the documentation of your trip is like mine of wanting to document my Greece trip from 1996. I’m really glad that I finish that this summer. Even though I don’t have a blog, I still have all those posts and pictures scanned. So, I hope you reach your goal and get that trip documented for yourself!
And the picture you have posted here reminds me of this building we have in our city. There are a bunch of real estate agents here that have the last name of Egan and there is an office building called the “EGAN BUILDING”. Everytime I drive past it, I want to get a picture, but I never have my camera. Alas.

  6. furiousball says:

goal for this year run half marathon in under 90 minutes in a Santa suit

  7. meno says:

Goals for this year: Laugh at those who make goals.
You need to photoshop that picture so the arrow points to you.

  8. sizzle says:

    what will you sing?

  9. Chris says:

Egan, I like meno’s idea so much i photoshopped it and sent it to your yahoo email. 🙂

  10. churlita says:

That is the best picture ever. How cool.

  11. armalicious says:

Wow. Chris is good with photoshop. Hella good.

  12. Diane Mandy says:

I’ll be back for sure! Perhaps you could add the dancing Airam elf as your background singer?

  13. JLee says:

You are showing some knee? scandalous! lol
There is nothing like a good road trip…especially in your neck of the woods where it is so beautiful.

  14. Airam says:

How much do I love this picture! I didn’t see the before shot but I do love Chris’ after creation! Well done Chris!

  15. Airam says:

And I like Diane’s idea of having my elf persona dance in the background. Another project for Chris I think?

  16. Airam says:

What the? Where’s my comment! BOth of them!

  17. Airam says:

Ok found them. I’m a douche.

  18. mez says:

I’m just amazed that you even run!

  19. egan says:

Bemused – I could be open to taking requests. I’m not the best singer so brace yourself. Flamboyant Egan isn’t a fan of goal setting either.
Chris – how do you know this stretch of road? I got a photo of an “Egan Highway” sign. You’re damn good sir.
Justrun – now there’s a plan. If I ran a half now it would take me about three hours. I’m so not wanting a time that slow. I might be exaggerating slightly.
Tori – I will sing as Santa because that’s how I roll. Have you given up on your treadmill because of the rodents?
Armalicious – why have you not told me about the Egan stuff in your neck of the woods before? Are you holding out on me? Maybe you could sing for me and I could dance around? I have a dreadful singing voice. I must admit the documentation of your Greece trip has been a motivator.
Furiousball – that’s one thing unlikely to happen unless they make santa suit running pants. How’s the blow up doll?
Meno – that’s a fantastic suggestion on the arrow. I sort of laugh at goals, but then sometimes I make them. Does being a good father count?
Sizzle – I think I will sing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Chris – I liked Meno’s idea so much I posted the photo you PhotoShop’ped for me. Well done kind sir.
Churlita – it became the best picture after the arrow was changed to point to me. Bloggers with PhotoShop –> priceless.
Armalcious – he’s got some talent. He is a good blogger mate.
Diane Mandy – yeah, that dancing Airam Elf freaked me out a bit. Elves are creepy is all I can say.
JLee – I know, I’m a real skin show-er. Don’t look at me because I’m likely to strip spontaneously.
Airam – the before shot pointed to the upper right corner of the sign, the opposite direction. Like I said to Diane, your dancing elf was creepy and nearly gave me nightmares.
Airam – your comments didn’t disappear ever. Typepad was down for a short time and maybe that’s what happened. Yes, you’re a douche, but a nice douche.
Mez – my running these days is very limited. To and from my car most of the time and in the grocery store.

  20. Bemused says:

I gather from your archives you speak a little French? How about a Christmas song in French? If Flamboyant Egan is game…

  21. Emma says:

oh, I’m super excited for that post! But I think you should wear a Mrs. Clause outfit 😉

  22. Chris says:

If you wish to see dancing elf Airam trying to strut her stuff with Egan in Egan, see my blog where I’ve posted a gift to my blog folk.

  23. Cheryl says:

You agreed. You’re stuck now. I th ink checking your blog is the first thing I will do next Thursday.

  24. brandy says:

We have a pub named Egans here and on the radio they always have ads like ‘it’s always more fun at Egans’, which makes me think your house must be a riot. Then, I remember that they are referring to the joint that lets you throw peanut shells on the floor and serves beer in gigantic mugs.

  25. armalicious says:

Hmmm…I think all of your readers should look for anything with the name “Egan” in it and take pictures and send it to you.
I don’t know why, but I really think this is a good project idea.

  26. armalicious says:

Typepad is being a bitch lately.

  27. meno says:

i LOVE the new picture! I am so proud that i inspired it.
    *sniff*
Being a good father isn’t a goal, you just do it, and i bet you are.
Do you ever wonder if people come back and read all the responses you make? Well, i do.

  28. Lynn says:

I think that it is just fabulous that the Department of Transportation (with a little help from Chris)put that sign up to mark your spot.

  29. armalicious says:

Haha…Ok…disclaimer time: it’s Friday afternoon and I’m really, really, really bored.
    Now.
Why didn’t you tell me that you played World of Warcraft? Check this out. Tee hee…I don’t know why, but I find this incredibly hilarious right now. I think it’s the fact that I have been light-headed all week (I’ve started to wonder if they aren’t pumping something through the vents here at work or something) and I’m sooooo ready for the weekend. Who knows.

  30. armalicious says:

Oh. I should probably tell you that I found that by going to Google Images and typing in “Egan” and seeing what shows up. A lot of funny stuff, that is for sure.
I told you I was bored.

  31. egan says:

Bemused – you’re a smart one grasshopper. Yes, I do speak French… et toi?
Emma – why Mrs. Clause? I dressed up as a girl far too often as a child on Halloween. No more cross dressing for me.
Chris – I’m disturbed, very disturbed.
Cheryl – fine, I will not disappoint. Shouldn’t my blog be the first one you check every day? Ha, me funny.
Brandy – you can throw peanut shells at me if you want. At Egan’s everyone is family!
Armalicious – you brought it up, I wonder if anyone will follow through. Hmm… the power of suggestion. Damn Typepad.
Meno – you’re so kind. I’m glad you come back to check the comments. It warms my heart to hear this. I do wonder if people come back and read my responses on older posts. That keeps me up at night. About the goals, I know and I also don’t “babysit Anna” since she is my daughter. I was in your ‘hood last weekend.
Lynn – the Louisiana Deptarment of Transportation is able to recognize greatness.
Armalicious – that character looks just like me. I’m huge like that and could crush anyone. You’re bored? No way.
Armalicious – you will have to share your findings in a presentation. Sound cool? That will be due EOD next Tuesday.

  32. Eunice says:

Dude. Now I definitely have to visit Eunice. Lousiana, that is. Oh, and New Mexico…while I’m visiting and all.

  33. egan says:

Eunice – is it really in Louisiana as well? That’s so cool. Is there one in New Mexico? There’s some Egan Range in Nevada, I will have to visit it someday.
