Well what do you know?  The last time we all talked I mentioned something about how awesome things have been going in our life. Jinx! I should know better than to say stuff like that and ruin a perfectly good parenting routine.

Jinx Me!  A couple unpleasant events happened since we last met.  Early Friday morning we awoke to the sounds of dry heaving over the baby monitor.  Our angelic daughter had puked in her crib.  Let me tell you it wasn't the 4:00am wake up call of dreams, but not entirely a surprise with daycare and all.  We got the mess all cleaned up, took the day off work, and did our best to nurse her back to health over the next 24-36 hours.

Saturday rolls around and things are wicked good.  The weather is hot, the local ponies are cute, the goats have done their work, and all is copesthetic.  Baby Singe even tries on a swimsuit and enjoys her first outdoor "swim". Mrs. Lessinges goes to a pedicure appointment as part of her belated Mother's Day gift.

Roughly thirty minutes after my wife left the house, my health took an abrupt nosedive.  I was forced to manage my rapidly deteriorating gut and offspring at the same time.  Mrs. Lessinges cell phone was off per pedicure policy at her salon.  Meanwhile I hoped to minimize my movements while my daughter looked on.  Damn unlucky I was!  Imagine the horror in her eyes when yours truly couldn't "contain" his tasty lunch pasta.  She cried for two hours. I did my best to minimize the damage quickly cleaning my foul mess in our bedroom, hall, and bathroom (sink, floor, and bathtub).

Anna was terrified. Egan was terrified. Mom felt awful for not being able to help. We all have/had the dreaded d word (when you're sliding into home…) This is one of those hurdles life throws at us and it's exactly what keeps us humble.

Lessons learned: a) next time I spoil my wife on Mother's Day and not six days later  b) Gatorade is my friend  c) never blog about my daughter's wonderful health again d)  the Norwalk virus isn't just for old people on cruise ships  e) we have awesome friends  f) having a sense of humor sucks

P.S. Are Steve Carell's 15 minutes up yet?

Yikes! I’m glad to hear that you and the fam are on the mend.
I think that even if you had gotten the pedi for Mrs. L on Mother’s Day, there’s always the risk that she could have gotten sick then- you just never know!
I LOVE that little swim suit!

  2. Pants says:

Sounds like the Les Singes household is suffering from a dreaded case of number 8 1/2. Totally rotten.
    Get better, yo.

  3. Pants says:

Ps. Wee little one’s swimsuit is ADORABLE!

  4. ubermilf says:

This is why we deserve the tax deductions.

  5. egan says:

Brookem – I suppose it could have happened on Mother’s Day too. Isn’t her little suit adorable? She loves the water.
Pants – we’re getting better I tell you. We have to let it run its course first. Poor little Anna doesn’t have much of an appetite these days.
Ubermilf – how are you? Gotta love the economic stimulus package. We had a child in August and got $300 as a reward. Woot!

  6. tori says:

    She is adorable!!!!
Being sick when you are the only one in charge stinks! I know this from experience! I’m glad you are feeling better.

  7. brookem says:

she loves the water like her daddo!

  8. egan says:

Tori – I hope I don’t get sick with her again when she’s this small. I got desperate and had to call our neighbor. Yes, I invited our neighbor over to our stinky house to watch our daughter while I made out with the toilet. I will have you know the neighbor has been given a gift certficate for his charitable work.
Brookem – damn right she loves the water. I can’t wait to teach her how to do backstroke.

  9. JessR says:

Ah, the kinds of things I have to look forward to…someday.
Hope all the messiness and misery is behind you now!

  10. kirk says:

My cats wake me up at 3am hacking. Right on the bed next to me. I’m not as worried about their health. Kitties puke, that is just what they do. I’m more worried about getting thrown up on. Must be a nightmare for the kidlet though.
And I hear you about Mr. Carrell. He’s great in 5 minute max increments, but a whole movie? You couldn’t pay me to sit through that.

  11. qt says:

Wow – that’s a rough one, dude. I’m glad things are looking up. Or maybe I shouldn’t even say that out loud….

  12. egan says:

JessR – you could avoid this sort of adventure if you stick to the pets and your yard. Hey, your book is available, congrats to you!
Kirk – I should train Anna to lick herself clean. It would make parenting so much easier. Giving an infant a bath isn’t easy. Yep, I know dissing Carell won’t be popular, but I’m kind of tired of his schtick.
QT – shhhhhhhh, knock on wood right now! That’s what she said.

  13. Chris says:

Here’s to hoping you are feeling better and betterer.
I know where you are coming from with Steve Carrell. It took me a bit of adjusting when I watched Evan Almighty to see someone other than “him”.
I think part of the danger of a character like that is that we automatically make those associations and the longer the character lives on, the harder it is to separate the actor from the character and perhaps the character from the actor (I actually meant that in reverse but am too lazy to edit).

  14. Chris says:

Funny, the first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the post was that N-Po taught you some nifty Chinese from her recent trip.

  15. Lynn says:

Oh you poor, poor thing! The throwing up thing is the worst! I don’t understand how anyone could be bulimic and actually do it on purpose. As for Baby Anna…she is quite the bathing beauty:~)

  16. sari says:

Oh I had that horrible stomach thing a month or so back, it was the worst 24 hours I’ve had in the last couple of years, worse than being pregnant even.
I hope you’re all feeling better!!

  17. Cléa says:

Oh nos! I hope you’re all feeling better. The bit about Anna scared Egan scared was so cute, even though it wasn’t at the time. I hope the pedicure was enjoyed at least!

  18. Amanda says:

Oh No! I hope you’re all feeling better by now. Perhaps you scared Anna this time but you never know, next time, she’ll be older and may actually ‘help’ you through your illness. I’ve found that Aaron can be really sympathetic when I’m having a rough time….like now with my 52 bites.

  19. mez says:

oh no, that’s terrible. Hope you’re feeling better. She’s like baby Esther Williams in that bathing suit. I am soooo loving it!

  20. Matt says:

Hope your feeling better now! And it’s true what everyone else is saying, you little girl is just precious in that bathing suit!

  21. BigBro says:

I think it’s called the “Norwalk” virus becaue you can neither run, nor walk to get to the damn bathroom quick enough, without some white cotton damage…:-)
    crappy i say!

  22. ms chica says:

I was going to chide you for being a slacker this week, but I guess riding the porcelain bus is a valid reason not to blog.
I remember my last “experience”. Good times.

  23. sprizee says:

Ah suck. Sorry to hear that Egan. Tell you what. Take Monday off. I’ll even throw in some decent weather for this weekend.

  24. Cherry! says:

Oh you poor things! She does look adorable swimming though!!! CUTE!

  25. churlita says:

Sorry to hear it. As a single parent, i’ve had that experience WAY too many times.

  26. JLee says:

oh man, that SUCKS big time!!
The worse thing ever in my book. I’d just about rather break a bone that that kinda mess. Hope you’re on the mend 🙂

  27. VIVA says:

well it sounds like the 24-36 hour variety….so soon you will feel better. just stock up on TP….hopefully the wife is not next!
