Change is good right? This year could be rather historic for our beloved country. If I've learned one thing by fathering a child it's that you can never get too cozy for too long. Change is what challenges who we are as people. You don't have to be a parent to grasp this concept. It gets us out of our little world by teaching us to broaden our imagination, perceptions of the world, and perhaps take a refreshing look at our own lives.
Change is imminent. Change is here and now. Status quo can be comforting in many ways, trust me I was there often as a child. I craved routine in a chaotic household. I grabbed routine by the horns and wouldn't let go. It seemed like the right thing to do. In many ways it still haunts me to some extent. When it comes to ordering food, I'm hardly classified as an adventurous gourmand. Music wise, I like the spoon fed stuff you find on commercial radio. I'm not really into seeking out new hip bands nobody's heard of before.
All this being said, summer is right around the corner and so are new risks and opportunities. Maybe I will let my shaggy hair grow longer than normal. Perhaps I will suck it up and give my dad a call. Change comes in many sizes and shapes, just like we do. Hello sunshine!

On a serious note, I hope that you have a fabulous summer of positive change(s).
The fear of change is whats exciting. There have been so many unexpected changes to our lives in the past few years that now, I just keep it in my head that whatever we have now is just temporary. I’m too lazy to get comfortable and then have to change my mindset again.

I used to be addicted to change when I was younger and moved almost every 6 months. having kids has really let me appreciate the slow and steady pace.

Ok, for real now. Now that I’ve had my lunch, I re-read your post and I think it has a very good message to it. And in light of some things going on in the world, very pertinent.
That being said, please…grow your hair AND call your dad.

Sicilian Mama – I will grow my hair out a bit and I will contemplate calling my dad. It just kind of irks me he hasn’t once tried to contact me since Anna was born, not once. Lame!
I use my google reader quite a bit, but I have a lot of blogs and other sites that I visit daily that don’t have feeds, so clicking on your page to see if you have new posts isn’t that hard for me. That’s how I found you had a new post today (crazy, eh?).
As for your dad, I completely understand how you feel on this. I really do. I didn’t talk to my mom for almost 8 years and she didn’t come to my wedding. It took a lot of strength and letting go of pride to take the first steps. But you know what? I am so glad that I did. Parents are people, too, and make mistakes and make poor judgement calls (like your dad not making any attempt to see your daughter). I know it’s hard, but trust me…both you and your daughter will most likely appreciate it in the end.

It is hard not to fear change. I scares me. I try to embrace change but I think I’m too much like a hermit crab. Carrying my stable unchanging world with me and peeking out every once in awhile to see what has changed.
No pressure or anything. Just saying.
And hells yeah, I’m old school. It’s how I roll.

The kids are good. Two is more than twice as hard especially if one is in diapers. It was fun reading about your Mr. Mom episodes. I just got done with an easy three day stint last week. I really have no idea how a single parent with multiple kids survives.

Bob – your fake email addresses rule. Okay, got that out of my system. Raising two kids has to be a lot of work. I have no clue how my mom handled so many children.
