Can You Spare Some?

Change is good right?  This year could be rather historic for our beloved country.  If I've learned one thing by fathering a child it's that you can never get too cozy for too long.  Change is what challenges who we are as people.  You don't have to be a parent to grasp this concept.  It gets us out of our little world by teaching us to broaden our imagination, perceptions of the world, and perhaps take a refreshing look at our own lives.

Change is imminent.  Change is here and now.  Status quo can be comforting in many ways, trust me I was there often as a child.  I craved routine in a chaotic household.  I grabbed routine by the horns and wouldn't let go.  It seemed like the right thing to do.  In many ways it still haunts me to some extent.  When it comes to ordering food, I'm hardly classified as an adventurous gourmand.  Music wise, I like the spoon fed stuff you find on commercial radio.  I'm not really into seeking out new hip bands nobody's heard of before.

All this being said, summer is right around the corner and so are new risks and opportunities.  Maybe I will let my shaggy hair grow longer than normal.  Perhaps I will suck it up and give my dad a call.  Change comes in many sizes and shapes, just like we do.  Hello sunshine!

    First!
I wanna hear Peter Brady’s voice crack in that Brady classic “Time to Change”.
On a serious note, I hope that you have a fabulous summer of positive change(s).

  2. Amanda says:

The fear of change is whats exciting. There have been so many unexpected changes to our lives in the past few years that now, I just keep it in my head that whatever we have now is just temporary. I’m too lazy to get comfortable and then have to change my mindset again.

  3. Sicilian Mama says:

Your post is too deep for me today. It’s hurting my head. I’ll come back tomorrow and try again.

  4. churlita says:

I used to be addicted to change when I was younger and moved almost every 6 months. having kids has really let me appreciate the slow and steady pace.

  5. brookem says:

    damn right, change is good.
    so is a good HOH.

  6. egan says:

Chris – change is upon us, in more ways than one. When is the longest day of the year?
Amanda – so right you are. You really just have to sit back and watch it all unfold in front of your eyes.
Sicilian Mama – I’m impressed you found this new post. Reading blogs without the Google Reader is a real bitch yo!
Churlita – I had a very very stable first 18 years of my life. the last 17, not as stable … but still very pleasing. Nothing wrong with slow and steady, yikes (that’s what she said)
Brookem – are you trying to tell me something about heads of hair?

  7. Carrie says:

I read the news this morning on the front page (YES, front page!) of one of our local newspapers.
I’m still a Hil-girl, but he did a job well done.
I hope you, my brothers and sisters to the south, get the change you need.

  8. Sicilian Mama says:

    You are!

  9. Sicilian Mama says:

    Wait…what?

  10. egan says:

Carrie – a chimp would be better than what we have now. Can you tell me what it is about Hillary that makes her appealing to you, a young 20s college educated woman? This is important for me and Barack’s supporters. Thanks.

  11. ms chica says:

Now I’m going to hear that Sheryl Crow song over and over in my head for the rest of the day.
I’m voting for the shaggy hair…just call me curious.

  12. Sicilian Mama says:

Ok, for real now. Now that I’ve had my lunch, I re-read your post and I think it has a very good message to it. And in light of some things going on in the world, very pertinent.
That being said, please…grow your hair AND call your dad.

  13. egan says:

Sicilian Mama – I’m waiting for it… a jerk? An asshole? I like to give you bad time. This little snafu with the Google Reader shows me how many folks use that sucker. Damn those powers that be at Google.
Ms. Chica – that change, that change will do you good… I say that change will do you good. That should help kitty.

  14. egan says:

Sicilian Mama – I will grow my hair out a bit and I will contemplate calling my dad. It just kind of irks me he hasn’t once tried to contact me since Anna was born, not once. Lame!

  15. Sicilian Mama says:

I use my google reader quite a bit, but I have a lot of blogs and other sites that I visit daily that don’t have feeds, so clicking on your page to see if you have new posts isn’t that hard for me. That’s how I found you had a new post today (crazy, eh?).
As for your dad, I completely understand how you feel on this. I really do. I didn’t talk to my mom for almost 8 years and she didn’t come to my wedding. It took a lot of strength and letting go of pride to take the first steps. But you know what? I am so glad that I did. Parents are people, too, and make mistakes and make poor judgement calls (like your dad not making any attempt to see your daughter). I know it’s hard, but trust me…both you and your daughter will most likely appreciate it in the end.

  16. egan says:

Sicilian Mama – I love it when you blog old school style. You’re like so retro and shit.
I know what you’re saying about my dad. I know, I know, I know. It’s not my fault, it’s not my fault, it’s not my fault. I will call him. I will call him. I will call him. People are people!

  17. Bob says:

Yay! your atom and rss links are fixed no more French word of the day.
It is hard not to fear change. I scares me. I try to embrace change but I think I’m too much like a hermit crab. Carrying my stable unchanging world with me and peeking out every once in awhile to see what has changed.

  18. Sicilian Mama says:

No pressure or anything. Just saying.
And hells yeah, I’m old school. It’s how I roll.
Did you know that there is a John Mayer song about change? It’s your favourite song, isn’t it? I knew it. Sucka!

  19. Sicilian Mama says:

    For Chris:
    Time to Change

  20. ms chica says:

Yeah, but all I wanna do…is have sum fun.

  21. Tall Chick says:

You’re such a John Mayer fan. I knew it.
    Got some spare change?

  22. Sicilian Mama says:

Damn. I got sidetracked (damn work). But I’m back now with a video for you. And Candace.
And, as an added bonus, I’m throwing this one in as well. Because…well, why not? You body is a wonderland. Whatever the fuck that means.

  23. Maggie says:

if change is good, should I save my pennies?
or are you talking about clean underwear? maybe once a week isn’t enough?

  24. i love summer for this reason. promise.

  25. Diane Mandy says:

Change? With the mice and all, are you considering a cat as part of this change?
Really, a great post. I’m feeling it today, too!

  26. Tall Chick says:

I’ll see your vids and counter you this. ^_^

  27. Cléa says:

Change isn’t always good or welcome but we adapt then tell ourselves it is good, or it was for the best. Unless it was a welcome change.

  28. egan says:

Bob – you totally have two kids don’t you? How the heck are they? Yes, thanks for alerting me to the RSS feed issue. I blame Feedburner.
Sicilian Chick – I know all too well about that annoying song of his. I want to slap him. Good thing he has curly hair.
Sicilian Mama – what are you doing to Chris? I really can’t believe that one Brady is porking the ANTM chick. Ugh.
Ms Chica – you totally miss Lance Armstrong don’t you?
Tall Chick – you’re right. I love that guy more than life itself. I love his body because it is a wonderland.
Sicilian Mama – enough with the fucking John Mayer YouTube clips. That guy is a tool if I ever saw one.
Maggie – I’m afraid I’m talking about the abstract version of change. Like altering events not involving pennies. I should change my panties more often.
Stepping Over the Junk – I hear you. Summer is full of promise and opportunity such as lemonade stands and car washes.
Diane Mandy – well thank you very much. Nope, there will not be a cat in our near future. We’re just not cat lovers, mainly because of allergies.
Tall Chick – is that an SNL video clip? Pretty funny stuff.
Cléa – I see where you’re going with your comment. True, true, true. You’re a good peep.

  29. Bob says:

The kids are good. Two is more than twice as hard especially if one is in diapers. It was fun reading about your Mr. Mom episodes. I just got done with an easy three day stint last week. I really have no idea how a single parent with multiple kids survives.

  30. egan says:

Essentially Me – I saw you’re still powering through the magic mushrooms. Good for you.
Bob – your fake email addresses rule. Okay, got that out of my system. Raising two kids has to be a lot of work. I have no clue how my mom handled so many children. Look at well adjusted I am as an adult. I’m glad you enjoyed reading during my most recent Mr. Mom week. I can’t imagine the three days alone with the two kids were completely easy, but I hear you.

  31. Chris says:

Sicilian Mama- Thanks for that – you made my day!

  32. Sicilian Mama says:

I’m sorry, but Chris Knight…today’s Chris Knight is HOT. And I can’t believe you used the word “porking”. Nice.
Sorry for the JM songs…I hate him just as much, if not more, than you do. I was a smidge loco yesterday.

  33. Cheryl says:

Change…where have I heard and seen that lately…hmmm.
So for some reason something happened to your blog and it was registering as a French vocab one instead of Les Singes and I was very confused. Sorry I haven’t been around…

  34. Zen Wizard says:

I say buy your dad a trial size bottle of Armani Code: This Father’s Day, give the gift of not smelling like a geezer!

  35. Pants says:

I need to let you know I’m getting my haircut today. When I don’t tell you it’s almost like I didn’t get anything done, except my hair’s shorter and I feel better about myself. Hey! Who moved my Sharpie®?! (sniff sniff)

  36. egan says:

Chris – Sicilian Mama makes my day all the time, if you know what I mean.
Cheryl – my French Word of the Day blog’s feed was overwriting the feed from this blog. I have no clue how or why that happened. Issue resolved and no need to feel bad.
Zen Wizard – hmm, that’s a unique solution. I guess that would require me to see him in person.
Pants – thank you kindly for the heads up. Can you tell me what sort of style you will be selecting? I like this comment since know what you’re doing is critical to my well being.

  37. Tall Chick says:

    Oui, c’est SNL. 🙂

  38. Tall Chick says:

PS j’ai les photographes pour toi a mon blog.

  39. egan says:

Tall Chick – actually it isn’t an SNL skit. They used the SNL tag even though they were ripping off an SNL skit. Cheaters.
Tall Chick – merci mon amie pour les photos. Tu rockes!

  40. brandy says:

“Perhaps I will suck it up and give my dad a call.”- Ditto.
Also, I do think longer hair when done right is the ultimate in man hair.

  41. egan says:

Brandy – I gave my dad a call. I’m not sure how much he heard since his hearing is shot, but it was good to hear about him and his health. More to come later.

  42. Tall Chick says:

Aw, poo, those cheaters. I never see it anymore, so I don’t know what the cast looks like. 😛

  43. egan says:

Tall Chick – I don’t watch SNL either, but I read some of the YouTube comments. If you ever want to read stupid thoughts, read comments left on YouTube posts.

  44. Kurt says:

hey monkey man! how’s the family and all? still training?
