So yeah, we have our daughter enrolled in a weekly music class. I’m in the habit of visiting her during her thirty minute music session. I scurry across the street, peek in her class window from outside, and see her teachers frantically motioning their arms. I look around concerned something is wrong. Nope, our daughter is making her way around the room on her own two feet. My eyes got a little wet and I ran inside to witness it first hand.
This morning the girl was not walking. Mom gave her an ultimatum that she must walk or else. Perhaps the message sunk in more than we thought. Inside the class I was overcome with pride, she was walking on her own. I pulled out my BlackBerry and snapped a video to record her big accomplishment. Our world is forever changed…

Whooo hooo! That’s so exciting!!!
Brandy – my heart literally skipped a beat. I don’t know where the emotion comes from, but it was so amazing. After all this time, she’s walking. What a fantastic day it is.
Is it weird that I watched it twice? I don’t care if it is. My favorite is the very end, the way her arms are out for balance… so darn cute.
DUDE!!! I watched it 3 times!
Brandy – it’s not weird in the least bit. I’ve watched it over 25 times already and the day is young. She just took off and seemed so comfortable doing it. As if she’s kept it hidden from us for a few months.
Golden – watch all you want. It’s a treat to see a kid doing something for the first time.
yay! that’s so amusing! i just got teary eyed watching it.
i like how her little sweater has just the top few buttons buttoned. very trendy look on her.
Brookem – ha, you would notice that. I put the sweater on her this morning and thought I’d give her neck some breathing room. I had a premonition she’d need the extra space for walking. It’s so cool to see her getting around on her own two feet.
Wow.
Look at her go! *sniffle* Our little Anna, all grown up.
Sprizee – that’s pretty much the same reaction I had.
Meno – next her parents will be selling their kayaks because their new tower won’t support 2.5 kayaks. I’m just saying. Hand them over, now!!
It’s really a whole new world. They suddenly stop being infants and start being toddlers and it’s amazing how independent they seem, all of a sudden. Watching this made me get a little teary for you; I’m so glad you were able to see this (and get it on video so we could see it, too!).
YAY! I’m so happy you are close enough to her daycare to have these sorts of moments.
Christina – I loved being able to witness it. I’m sure my wife is chomping at the bit to see her walk, but we’ll have plenty of time to embrace her newfound skill. I love how she sort of waddles as she moves. Maybe it’s the athlete’s foot she’s got.
Pants – I got lucky. I almost didn’t go to her music class today. Thankfully I talked myself into going because I came to work an hour early.

when they get up and become bipeds they become little people…it is the best time. How wonderful you got to see it, video it and then share….adorable. Think i may have to give Perfect Sister this link, she’s still waiting for the vid of her granddaughter walking that she’s been promised for about a month. Oh, and just so you know, you’re sitting down time has just come to an end also…but it’s worth it. Wait til she discovers ‘stairs’…

EVERYONE – thanks for the advice, fearmongering, and general love. It’s appreciated. I woke up this morning and immediately forced her to walk. I put her in the kitchen and off she went. I guess it wasn’t just a dream. She can walk!
Tori – my voice sounds so different when I’m talking to Baby Singe. As a parent, you probably know exactly what I mean. I’m not proud of it either. It just happens.
