Shhh, they might hear you

Secrets! We all have them. With whom do we share our innermost secrets? What constitutes a secret? On some level do we want people to know our secrets? Got a secret you want to share? Post it in the comments and I will do my best to protect your identity.

Yesterday was BlogSecret Day where 80 bloggers anonymously shared their intimate thoughts on someone else’s site. For whatever reason, their stories might not be suitable for the general public on their own blog.

During some downtime, I read many of the entries. Lots focussed on relationships, poor decisions made earlier in life, or issues pertaining to sexuality. I was truly captivated by the stories shared. I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity of the authors and how many of them disguised their writing “voices”. My only gripe, there’s no way for me to track down their real blog. It’s a bit of a bummer after you’ve invested some time in learning new stories about fellow bloggers. I obviously don’t want someone to ruin their cover, but I related to many of the bloggers and sadly I won’t be able to find their blogs. It’s not about me though, it’s about giving the bloggers a chance to divulge stuff which has been eating away at them.

I played detective all day, taking notes on writing style, who commented where, which bloggers used Canadian spellings, punctuation, blog profiles, etc. I was like a cyber version of McGruff, the crime dog. Thanks to all the participants for your candor. Until next time, good day and good luck!

I for one, growing up on Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, The Boxcar Children and The X-Files enjoyed the random and extreme secrets shared without wanting to know who they were… refreshing to just have secrets spilled with no judgement…:-)

Big Bro – did we really grow up in the same household? I did enjoy reading random secrets, don’t get me wrong. It’s really interesting to see what sort of stuff people keep bottled up inside. No judgements is right. Words to live by.

An Encyclopedia Brown reference in your comments has just made my day. I loved those books.
And I’m with you on the commenting thing- I think I might contact Nilsa to ask if the person who did mine wants to do a January post to let us know what happens- I’m definitely curious!

  4. egan says:

Brandy – yes, her post was most intriguing. I would put that one in the top three or so I read yesterday. I’m glad the author came back and offered an update.
P.S. you’re good, very good. I looked long and hard for your entry. I know that’s maybe not the intent, but it didn’t stop me from trying. I gave up late last night.

  5. I like movies about gladiators and grown men naked. Also food served out of trailers.

ABS – hmmm, I sense a rat here. This secret of yours is very revealing. How will I know what you look like?

  7. justrun says:

I agree. It was so interesting to read all of those secrets.

  8. egan says:

Justrun – can I get an “Amen”? Please!

I’ve always been jealous of my twin sister, and I’ve always wanted her life. The only thing I could do to get what I wanted was to kill her. I’ll spare you the messy details of how I did that, but when I was done I had to get rid of the body. Being the creative gal I am, I cut her up into tiny pieces, added a pinch of salt and pepper then cooked her for almost a day in the easy bake oven I had just purchased on e-bay. I love that oven, it is just like the one I had in 1977. That oven brought back so many memories, like the time my sister cooked my Barbie in it, and the time she cooked my legos in it, and the time she put it in the real oven and cooked my easy bake. Anyway…that wasn’t the only memory my new oven brought back. The smell of my sister baking in it reminded me a lot of my Mom’s pork roast…YUMMMMM. After my “roast” cooled I removed the cooked brittle bones, ground them to a fine powder and disposed them in the lake. The back yard pigeons were treated to quite a feast of meat.
Since then, I’ve assumed her life and no one is the wiser. She had (now I have) a hot husband who is rich and great in bed. Life doesn’t get any better than this!
Disclaimer…this is not a confession, it is what would have happened IF I did it.

I know we lived in the same house and I think we had the same mother…everything else is speculative…you grew up on Richard Scary and Capt. Crunch and People magazines…:-)

Ooooo. Encyclopedia Brown. And I’ve got mad detective skills. Friends when I was in college told me that I should become a P.I. because I’m so good at tracking down stuff.

  12. My middle name is secrets but I didn’t partake in blogsecret…I was worried a certain SPY would out me….

  13. I loved reading the secrets. I didn’t participate because I don’t think I have any secrets. I think I might need to work on not being so open and telling everyone everything about me because I feel sort of left out. Either that or I need a darker past or a big secret now or something. Maybe that will be my New Years resolution. I think I might be too boring after reading the secrets posted! I do appreciate everyone being brave enought to share their secrets though.
Sorry I disappeared when we were chatting yesterday! My daughter was home sick and needed me when she was puking (see what I mean about having nothing kept private? Who tells someone that gross stuff!)

Ok.. color me dumb. Where are the ‘secret blogs’ I want to read them. I went to the blogsecret site.. but.. well.. yeah.. like I said.. I’m dumb. Help a sister out.

My Last Name Starts With S – you’re starting to freak me out. It’s all well and good until you piss off the Easy Bake Oven. This “confession” of yours has my fingers poised to dial 911. Just say when.
Big Bro – is this where you assert your intellectual superiority? Passhaw, I’m not falling for it. I learned some wonderful things from the backs of Trix and Lucky Charms boxes. Who needs real books when you can read Choose Your Own Adventure books? Those were the shit.
Kailyn – I think it would be fun to be a P.I. for about a week. Then paranoia would set in as if I was a habitual pot smoker and I’d give up my magnifying glass.
Princess Extraordinaire – really? You were afraid someone would out your secret? I thought it was assumed people wouldn’t do that.
Tori – no worries about disappearing on Facebook chat. Chatting on Facebook is about as reliable as an 80’s American car. You honestly don’t believe you have any secrets? None? Hmm, that my friend surprises me.
Golden – it has been two days, I’m hoping you got my memo and have enjoyed reading the secrets.

Oooo! Thanks for the link! I hadn’t heard of this, but am looking forward to digging in for some good reads.
